Chizarira National Park

“Home of the Hidden Gorges”

The park overlooks the upper waters of Lake Kariba and the mighty Zambezi Valley from its position on top of the great Zambezi escarpment in Zimbabwe's northwestern region. Besides Hwange National Park, Gonarezhou National Park, and Mana Pools National Park, Chizarira National Park is Zimbabwe's fourth largest national park.

Chizarira's rough terrain is part of the Zambezi Escarpment, of which the park gets its name from the Batonga word chijalila. In 1938, Chizarira was declared a non-hunting reserve and in 1963, it was declared a game reserve. There are beautiful gorges, plateaus, flood plains and magnificent flora and fauna in this pristine 2,000 square kilometer park, making it a stunning destination for any visitor.
